Over the years we been taken for a ride in an old Layland Bus on a rough bumpy road to a direction and bus stops that would be at the choices of the driver and the conductors. At each bus stop we get hopes that we reached our destination only to find ourselves at a destinations further from what we intended to go at. Does this situation sound familiar if not I bet you not in Kenya or maybe you most ignorant person this country can do without.
Well first was the Kenyatta’s regime which I may as well say was the core of the many problems that Kenya experiences. With due respect to the fathers of this great nation I want to say if they had put there own selfish and self-righteous ambitions a side and looked at the building of the nation as a priority I want to believes we would be at the helm of development and success. A culture of selfishness was embedded in the country to the sense that whatever position one is the “me first” mentality sets in. All this for the purposes of enriching themselves no wonder we will ever claim to fight graft but who is fighting this graft if they are the same selfish people we have bestowed the ability to fight the so called graft.
Fast forwarding to the Moi Era well not much of change rather continuity of graft and all sorts of corruption and depleting the public coffers was the order of the day. To this he the other day in his retirement call pick-pockets in the bus, really! One is left to wonder but what happened to the many other things that happened under your watch eh? Well they say an informed society transforms it to development hence maybe the introduction of 8-4-4 which many of us passed through but what happened to it? Was there ever a projection and prognosis to its impact to the Kenyan society or was it for the lack of care to what happens because you children went abroad for schooling…
Come Kibaki Era, finally we thought we had the right driver hurrah!!! But wait celebration was too soon coz the bus was never replaced with a new one and it seemed pick-pockets were still on the bus too! Fat payments to ghost companies are we for real! Education they dropped all subjects thar made 8-4-4 with the flimsy reason burdening students what about the generations before weren’t they burdened? What would have happened if they had made it optional instead giving the country a diversity of man power, free education indeed… Constitution, who said it has to written by us given the fact we cant trust ourselves with this precious document? Wont give examples but it has been told before of countries of almost impeccable systems like the united states where they got there constitution written in Japan now isn’t it something to learn from? It has never amazed to me as to hoe Kenyans are taken for a ride for many matters. For example the 2005 referendum which was based to Kenyans to interpret the draft and go vote from understand while at the same time we still grappling with illiteracy and if any education minimal. How were Kenyans able to interpret whether it would work for us or not, well good answer the politicians made things easier for them but they’re all chameleons. They would change views depending whether it benefits them or not.
Yes with lots of confusion and bloodshed of innocent lives we get to Raibaki Era (Raila Kibaki era). We are led to believe this would work and for once the government would be in check from inside. The public had no hopes but what we call expectations. There was an expectation of better administration, upholding of human rights enhanced democracy, transparency and the list goes on and on. It was a shock when the PM would threaten the media and for that matter insinuates it was meant to ridicule them from mentioning him to graft issues. That was my saddest day ever! A further saliva spit on our face when the government led by the two principles hold a conference of “The Kenya We Want” how palatable to our ears was that? We have them as MPs not even taking the first step of saying I want my allowances taxed they haven’t shown any leadership skills. How further are we expected to be lead when the rest of us of meager earnings would pay taxes why not them and don’t give me that story of the law says it can be amended if you care about the public at all ever!
Graft will be there as long as we have selfishness and the idea of having high offices with attractive packages to give them the leeway to do what they feel like. How many would want to be MPs if they were required to pay taxes and were to buy vehicles from there own pockets no records of criminal activity including suspicion of corruption. What if they were made to declare wealth before election? Account there richness in public. All these made into law. None would admire that seat.
Already shamelessly we got 2012 contenders on the threshold are they out of there mind? Anyway I don’t care what they claim to want or there aspirations and ambitions but what are you doing in terms of practicability to the nation? What is out there is lots of bickering accusations and a lot more of “graft fighting”. Somebody please enlighten me when we have graft fighting how can we loose billions of shillings to one man? Why are our people dying of starvation? The other day shamelessly begging for money honestly is there hope for the nation? When can we ever going to have the government saying we cutting cost of expenditure by lets say fuel consumption where they have only a half of vehicles out to work am sure we got many other ways.
If you are eyeing the 2012 just remember we are eyeing you too can you stand out from these slithering snakes out there
