It’s to my notice that I was looked like to have pessimistic views about my beloved country. I would like to say that is pretty far away from my intentions. As a matter of fact it’s the love for the country that keeps me talking about it. In attempt to catch to the spirit of Brand Kenya, am obliged to take back a few of things I said in the yesterday note of branding Kenya. Apparently, it’s supposed to be a campaign to up the attitude of the young people. Watching certain programs and half watching others could feel it’s an attempt to let the young people and the youth to realize themselves in Kenya. In many of the programs they’re seen to enlighten the youth with various success stories as per the few who have made it in their various fields.
Must agree the young men in the country need their attitude looked into. It’s time the young people realized they have the opportunity to make themselves despite the unemployment cases rising to amazing stats and worse they are even cutting more from their jobs. It’s pointless to sit back and blame the government for their failures. The last time I checked the government has not bothered to create whatever number of jobs they kept promising. So it’s time the realized it’s up to them to be innovative regardless of the education standards. It’s the spirit of waiting for some form of tip up and free stuff that’s killing the entrepreneurship and business sense. This has made most youth to be vulnerable to the elite and the political misuse.
Hope we get real cases of success to just act as samples to the youth. Talking to foreigners living in Kenya and entrepreneurs they all talked of Kenya as the land of opportunity. That’s why they thought it’s the best place to come and put their investments. According to them back in their countries especial from the west, opportunities have been exhausted and there are no chances for new ideas because all have been thought for and done. When they look at what we have around its more opportunities available and since they are full of ideas they easily exploit them in the face of the young people and Kenyans.
All said and done would like to insist that it’s the placed policies that would help uplift and change the attitude of our young people in Kenya. We have seen some attempt to lend money and even have Small Businesses being sponsored the questions are; to what extend is the support? What policies have been put in place to ensure the new entrants to the business community are able to sustain themselves? I tend to believe with the issue of having the SMEs out there competing with the market giants is unfair business although it’s up to them to match up. The elephant companies always vows to be in the market hence push out the SMEs. We need some people or business gurus to enlighten the Small business on the issue of tackling the elephants of the market. Also with new policies and friendly relations with financiers and loaners can help enhance the young people with their small business.
Brand Kenya as an initiative is an amazing idea I would say again but what’s important is to ensure that it’s an issue of implementation from all quarters. We need to have the spirit working in to all institution both government and private, we need to have both the leaders and the citizen working together to ensure that pulling together and surge towards the Kenya we want. It’s time for the innovative minds to put together their ideas and push to better themselves. I wish the initiative works for all them young people in Kenya.
